Mission Statement for the conference: 2005 is an important year for the anti-vivisection movement in general and particularly for the anti-vivisection movement in Philadelphia. One of the world's most notorious vivisection laboratories, Huntington life Sciences lies on the brink of closure. Huntington has been exposed several times for such atrocities as punching beagle puppies in the face, dissecting live monkeys, and falsifying data concerning the safety of consumer products. HLS is currently 85 million dollars in debt which they must repay in 2006. This year represents a golden opportunity to close the lab once and for all. Philadelphia has a proud tradition of anti-vivisection activism. In 2004, a Philadelphia-based animal rights organization, Hugs for Puppies convinced over a dozen companies to refuse to do business with Huntington. The list includes customers, market makers and even their software supplier. This year the national biotechnology conference will take place in Philadelphia. Huntington Life Sciences will be attending this conference in an attempt to promote their failing company and peddle their falsified data to the corporations that seek to contaminate and patent the world's food supply. This year, as a response to the biotech conference and because this is a crucial year for the anti-vivisection movement. Hugs for Puppies' annual conference will focus on animal testing.
HUGS FOR PUPPIES Mission Statement: Hugs for Puppies is a grassroots animal rights group based in the Philadelphia area. We campaign for animal rights through both action and outreach, believing that many steps must be taken to create a society where animals are treated humanely and their rights to be healthy, happy, and free are respected by all. Intelligent campaigning, professionalism, courage in the face of intimidation, creativity, and constant action on behalf of animals are what we strive for.
