Music and the Animal Liberation Movement, by Josh Eldridge. I'm from a small town. The place I grew up had less than 1,000 people living in it and it was very uncommon to have a meal – any meal – that didn't have meat in it. There was no vegetarians or vegans but there was music and that's what I clung to. Music opened me up to a whole new world – one that none of my friends from school ever found. Music was an escape from being stuck in a soulless, non-descript town and it taught me about things that I would have never learned anywhere else. The rest of the essay is here.
The Importance of Straightedge - Vegan Hardline by Walter Bond. I want to live in a world where the Earth and Animals get to live and flourish. I want to live in a world without racism. I want to live in a world where our mothers and sisters are not preyed upon in the streets or in their homes. I want to live in a world that has respect for all innocent life, and I want to live in a world without the self-destruction and diminished capacity of inebriation.
To that end I am Straightedge. This means that I have taken a lifelong oath to abstain from recreational drug use. It further means that I have vowed to try to make this world a more peaceful and just place by standing against oppression, slavery and death, whether self-inflicted or otherwise. It is this stand that makes me Straightedge and not merely drug-free. It is a difficult oath to live up to and should not be undertaken by those that are not 100% sure that they can live up to it. Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond's Mother Pens Beautiful Essay Walter Bond was born a warrior; he did not choose it because he found a worthy or righteous cause. A warrior is born with a fire inside and a need to right wrongs. He is born with a compassion and caring rooted so deeply that it is difficult to walk away from any sort of cruelty, whether it involves the people, the Animal Nations, the oceans and seas or the whole of Mother Earth and Father Sky. Plant Seeds or Plant Bombs? by NAALPO Advisor Steve Best, PhD And so, I suggest, instead of planting seeds, we need to plant bombs. We have to ignite and trigger explosive forces of anger, discontent, awareness, resistance and transformation, or we are going down the same road of extinction every human (Homo) ancestor went down, as we take most of life with us, and degrade every ecosystem before we go. Johnnie Walker Wisdom, Only Less Inebriating What is most galling about those vociferously opposed to animal liberation and animal rights, particularly those who are in favor of continued use of non-human animals in medical research and vivisection, is their seeming inability to marshal any substantive facts in defense of their position. Leaving aside the fact that their position is basically indefensible, both philosophically and in reality, so to say, they are left with caterwauling appeals to emotion. New Essay by NAALPO Advisor Steve Best, PhD.: Animal liberation requires that people transcend the complacent boundaries of humanism – however “radical” and “progressive” – to effect a qualitative leap in ethical consideration, one that moves the moral bar from reason and language to sentience and subjectivity . Humans must not only change their views toward one another, a massive undertaking in itself, they must also recognize that the species boundaries separating human from nonhuman animals are as arbitrary as those of race and sex. Animal liberation is possible only as total liberation that is advanced as part and parcel of a radical social movement and realizes moral learning processes in the institutional networks of a truly democratic post-capitalist society. Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond Denounces the "Green Scare" Please do not consider me a "Green Scare" defendant and please do not become scared to be "Green." Better yet, please do not be scared to be militant, or outspoken, or an activist for the legal aboveground or clandestine underground. Still better, don't give in to state-sanctioned fear. Camille Marino: Ethical Veganism Does Not Help Animals (Published on the blog Let Them Eat Meat) Camille Marino is the founder and Senior Editor of Negotiation is Over and is on the Advisors and Speakers Panel of the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. NIO strives to be an instrument of defiance, disruption, disobedience, subversion, creative and aggressive grassroots action, and a catalyst for revolutionary change. NIO's belief is that "Total liberation -- human animals, nonhuman animals, and the earth -- will not happen by politely asking abusers to be decent." Camille and many of her above-ground activist allies recently made a decisive break from vegans who are content to alleviate their own guilt through personal veganism and baking vegan goodies. NIO has also gained notoriety by advocating violence against those who are so entrenched, though Camille has remained non-violent in her approach. Read the interview here.
Animal Liberation Press Office Interview with RISE and Press Officer Nicoal Sheen Direct action is most effective for animals – period. Direct action includes but is not limited to: liberation of animals from confinement and places of exploitation, economic sabotage which breaks down industries monetarily (the very material item that drives the atrocities happening to animals) and intimidation tactics – such as bomb hoaxes – to threaten animal exploiters and ultimately, stop them from continuing the torture and murder of sentient beings. Supreme Vegan Power by Press Officer and Prisoner of War Walter Bond Consumerism truly has affected our ethics and the ways in which we behave. Even many that think themselves progressive, liberal or fire-breathing anarchists. We are taught by advertisers to think in terms of profitability instead of principle. Read Bond's essay here.

Latest Essay by Press Officer Walter Bond: Vegan Wolf Tribe -Well, my sentencing is right around the corner and the last 12 months of my life have been interesting ad tumultuous to say the least. A good friend once told me "People that live best and are the most well received are those that represent themselves exactly as they are". That has proved to be the most accurate and difficult statement to live up to I have ever heard. Well buddy "We win again!" Sometimes I've felt like Atlas with the weight of the world on my shoulders. But my supporters have been amazing and your efforts never go unappreciated by me. That said I wish to express my thanks. How Rebecca Rubin Became a "Most Wanted" Woman -According to the FBI, Rubin, 37 years old, belongs to an ultra-radical group known as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), which along with its sister organization, the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), authorities describe as "the most active extremist elements in the United States." In the late 1990s, Rubin is alleged to have participated in a spree of arsons that caused upwards of $55 million in damages. As recently as 2008 FBI spokesman Richard Kolko described the loose-knit confederacy of eco-guerillas as "what we would probably consider the No. 1 domestic terrorism threat." AETA and the Assault on Academic Freedom By David Naguib Pellow. Why would the nation state label animal and Earth liberation activists "terrorists"? What does this have to do with academic freedom, and what is the broader social and political significance of the Green Scare for social movements and scholars who teach or do research on these issues or who work in solidarity with these groups? Animal Liberation, Human Liberation, and the Future of the Left- Steve Best It seems lost on most of the global anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist Left that there is a new liberation movement on the planet -animal liberation- that is of immense ethical and political significance. But because animal liberation challenges the anthropocentric, speciesist, and humanist dogmas that are so deeply entrenched in socialist and anarchist thinking and traditions, Leftists are more likely to mock than engage it. Press Officer Nicoal Sheen on Grand Jury Resistance. Increasingly, grand jury resistance has become a crucial part of activist vocabulary and action - especially in the animal rights community. According to many references in law, grand juries are said to "protect the innocent" against "unfair publicity" and serious accusations where one may or may not be guilty. Political activists have clearly experienced the opposite of such protection. Rather, grand juries are strategically used by the government and judicial prosecution to oppress. In several cases against activists, grand juries are used as a tool to "extract information" they believe the accused can access. Grand juries are no more than a witch hunt where authorities target activists who are effective and outspoken in order to stifle free speech. Full essay here.
Animal Liberation Prisoner Walter Bond on Adversity and Defiance. The struggle for liberation is not about the individual, even more so for the animal rights and earth rights camps. It is not who we are, or the hardships we face as activists that are ultimately important. What is important is that we take every opportunity to further the cause, the animals' cause. That we remain vital and even and especially in the face of adversity because that's when it counts the most, fair weather activism only goes so far . Read the remainder of the essay here.
Veganism & Child Porn: A former victim of child sexual abuse makes a screaming plea for help. It seems there are two main reasons people choose to be non-vegan. One is an unwillingness to make the effort it initially takes to research vegan nutrition and to change their grocery shopping and cooking habits. The other is an unwillingness to give up the pleasures that certain foods give to their taste buds. This also hits too close to home for me, that an innocent creature be sacrificed to abuse in order to allow for someone else's convenience or trivial pleasure. It's just wrong. I know that on the one hand these non-vegans are innocent, because they grew up in a culture which brainwashed them into thinking the imprisonment and murder of animals is ok. And so I forgive them, for they know not what they do. But on the other hand I know they are guilty...Read the essay here .

Roundabout as Conflict-avoidance versus Malcolm X's Psychology of Liberation The now familiar concept of "pacifism as pathology" was introduced by Ward Churchill as the central characteristic of First-World middleclass so-called social justice activism. Churchill argued from history that all liberations were leveraged through violence and proposed that pacifism as cowardice was pathology. Read the whole essay here.

Rick Bogle: Animal Rights Violence Gary Francione, well known Rutgers University law professor and animal rights philosopher, has written a piece on his blog explaining why violence should not be advocated nor employed in any attempt to advance animals' rights. Before I criticise his position, let me make it clear: I'm not advocating violence. We have to think our way out of utilizing violence. My current best effort at doing just this is the National Primate Research Exhibition Hall. But no matter how abhorent we might find violence to be, and no matter how kind and gentle we are and would like others to be, it isn't the same as saying that violence wouldn't work. Nobody Talks, Everybody Walks: Recently, a trusted activist and ally in the So Cal community was coerced into the local police station to talk. The cops claimed (falsely) to have an arrest warrant, and convinced the activist to come down to the station - or face arrest. Agents and cops will say anything to terrorize people and it is completely legal for the authorities to lie to you. This particular activist was targeted due a recent falling out with other activists. Authorities most likely suspected the activist would give information since they were drifting from the movement due to previous intimidation*. The activist should have slammed the door in the cops' faces and called an attorney. Among the many mistakes that were made by this activist, the biggest one of all was opening their mouth. RAGE (Radicals against Greed and Exploitation), newly formed collective, makes its debut and hastens to build a bridge. We can rest assured that justice will ultimately prevail and that the anthropocentrists' over-confidence, apathy, moral turpitude, and lack of conviction will hasten and ensure the demise of the dominant paradigm of speciesism. Yet, as small as our numbers are relative to those who relentlessly immiserate and annihilate billions of nonhuman animals per annum, as we press to advance animal rights and liberation we need to heed Steve Best's call to build bridges with other radical social justice movements. And our newly forged anarchist collective, RAGE (Radicals against Greed and Exploitation), will start by building an alliance with the LGBTA Rights Movement. more...

December 28, 2009: Words Without Action Are Wrong Empathizing with the struggle of the oppressed is insufficient; we must be willing to die for their freedom. otherwise we need to find a hobby. These ideas resonated with me. They are the lens through which my own inadequacies become magnified and glaring. Animal terrorists demand an equal and opposite response from animal liberationists and, thus far, I have not - we have not - delivered. The extreme violence systematically visited upon nonhumans cannot be addressed with moderation and civility. Read all the latest essay by Camille Marino from Negotiation is Over here .
December 19, 2009: Magical Abolitionism: Francione Admits Defeat and Irrelevance as He Degenerates Into Self_Parody The increasingly desperate and vapid vegan abolitionists, led by Gary Francione, have run so dry of ideas, they apparently have hired a Madison Avenue advertising team - or perhaps a Rutgers-area high-school marketing class - to rescue them from paralysis and irrelevance. But whatever suave snake-oil peddler conjured up the first advertising campaign for this moribund movement, they inadvertently drove the final nail in Francione's coffin and removed the last veil covering the impotence and bankruptcy of lifestyle veganism and bourgeois abolitionism, on display for all to see at this incredible historical moment of planetary crisis, where humanity must choose life or death, sustainability or extinction.
