Animal Liberation Front Targets Supplier of Huntingdon Life Sciences; Bachem Offices Have Windows Smashed in California

San Carlos , CA: In an anonymous communique received by the Animal Liberation Press Office yesterday, the Animal Liberation Front(ALF) has taken credit for a brazen attack on Bachem offices in California. Bachem, which acquired the former Peninsula Laboratories site in late 1999, is a well-know supplier of biological products to Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), the infamous contract animal testing company exposed repeatedly for animal cruelty. A videotape of the action was included with the communique.

HLS kills 500 animals per day testing such products as oven cleaners and pesticides, and has been strenuously targeted by activists organized as Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty, or SHAC. HLS has facilities in the United Kingdom and New Jersey; its suppliers and customers have been under unrelenting attack by animal advocates for the last 3 years, driving HLS to near-bankruptcy.

The communiqué reads in full:

"Recently, members of the Animal Liberation Front paid a visit to Bachem/Peninsula Laboratories (305 Old Country Road, San Carlos, CA 94070), a well-known associate of Huntingdon Life Sciences. Left in our wake were spraypainted messages, busted windows, and broken glass to deliver our message that supporting the murder of 500 innocents every day will not be tolerated.

Bachem - this is only the beginning. All of the security, cameras and burglar alarms that you can buy will not save you now. Sever any and all ties to HLS. If not - things can only get worse. See you soon!"

A spokesperson for Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) stated "While we do not condone breaking the law, it is clear the passion of some animal defenders will hold those accountable that make animal torture a reality in places like HLS".
